Writing progress is defined by inspiration and not perspiration. If I agonize for ages and my only result is a single, lonely phrase that truly moves me, it is worth infinitely more than the mechanized machinations I perfomed to crunch out pages of uninspiring drivel.

Writing progress is defined by what new facet of Lin is revealed by the time I close down the file for the day. It isn't the word count. I often agonize for hours on a single word within a sentence. So I mark progress by Lin's evolution. Her growth defines me as an author.
